Come Back Little Sheba
March 6 - 30, 2014
by William Inge
SNAP! is pleased to announce their next offering, William Inge’s “Come Back, Little Sheba”. This classic drama took Broadway by storm when it was originally offered and garnered Shirley Booth an Oscar for her portrayal of Lola in the film adaptation. The play will run from March 6th through March 30th, 2014.
Come Back, Little Sheba concerns the Doc and Lola Delaney, a middle-aged couple for whom life has ceased to hold much in the way of promise or fulfillment. Set in their cramped, cluttered Midwestern house, the plot centers on their hum-drum existence and how it is disrupted by their new boarder, Marie, a college art student with a zest for life. Forced to abandon a promising career in Medicine when he married a pregnant Lola, Doc ekes out a living as a chiropractor. As a recovering alcoholic, he maintains a precarious sobriety by avoiding the past. Now overweight and slovenly, housebound Lola engages in mild flirtations with the milkman and mailman, like the ingratiating coquette she once was. She sees in Marie herself at that age, and encourages her pursuit of two beaux--successful businessman Bruce and BMOC Turk. For Doc, Marie represents the youth and opportunity he sacrificed, and his eventual realization that she is not as pure and perfect as he imagined sends him back to the bottle and a slow descent into unbridled rage.
The cast includes SNAP! veterans: Michal Simpson as “Doc”, Josh Mullady as “Bruce”, Brent Spencer as “Mailman/Elmo” and Ree Davis-Stone as “Mrs. Coffman. SNAP! is pleased to welcome these newcomers to our stage: Sally Scamfer as “Lola”, Alexia Childers as “Marie”, Brady Moe as “Turk”, Mark Kocsis as “Milkman/Ed” and Kabin Thomas who will be sharing the role of “Mailman/Elmo”.
This show will be helmed by director M. Michele Phillips. She will also join Daena Schweiger in designing sound. Directing assistance will be given by Brian Callaghan and JoAnn Goodhew. Set and Lighting Design will be done by Josh Mullady. Costume Designer for this show is Lora Kaup. Stage Managing the production will be JoAnn Goodhew. Properties will be conceived by Nicole Hawkins.
