November 21 - December 15, 2013
Tribes, the newest offering by SNAP! Productions (with the support of the Nebraska Arts Council and the Nebraska Cultural Endowment), tells the story of a deaf son struggling to be heard. The 2012 Drama Deck Award winning play, Tribes, Nina Raine creates a smart new world in this bright and boldly provocative drama. SNAP! Productions, again, give Omaha theater goers their first look at a fascinatingly riveting show.
The play focuses on a family with a son who is deaf (with two hearing siblings) raised without knowledge of sign language. When he meets Sylvia, a hearing woman born to deaf parents, who is now slowly going deaf herself, his interactions with her (including her teaching him sign) reveals some of the languages, beliefs, and hierarchies of the family and the "extended family" of the deaf community.
Tribes calls upon six remarkable cast members. The cast includes Brent Spencer, Judy Radcliff, Rick Terkeurst, Noah Diaz, Kaitlyn McClincy, and Regina Palmer. Also lending a hand with this SNAP! show will be Brian Callaghan (Stage Manager), Echelle Childers (Costumes), Daena Schweiger (Audio/Visual/Sound Designer), Joshua Mullady (Light Design), Ronnie Wells (Set Design) and Rhonda Hall (Properties).
