A Note From Steve Schalchlin
| I want to extend my congratulations to SNAP! Productions for their emotionally powerful and deeply heartfelt production of my (and book writer Jim Brochu's) musical The Last Session. I was privileged to be invited to Omaha during the original festival production and the extended run -- and I saw Omaha embrace the ideals of the musical, that the moral culture war can be resolved without hatred and without people lining up against each other. |

The singing in this show rivaled the New York and Los Angeles productions.
The passion that the actors and creative team invested in the production was
second to none. I especially appreciated how director Randy Stevens, David
Catalan and James Tobey sought me out on the internet and invited me to
participate freely in the production. I also thank them for helping me
perform AIDS education programs in some Omaha schools as an extended
community outreach.
And the night I got to step in and play with role of Gideon with the Omaha
cast was one of the most soul-stirring and deeply emotional nights of my
life. I wish every human being could know what it means to stand on a stage
with people who are putting their hearts, souls and minds into work you've
created. Laureen, Kathy, Tom, Cory and Ryan -- my only regret is that I was
here in Los Angeles while you were onstage grabbing your awards. I would
have been jumping all over the room with excitement for you.
Omaha, I'll never forget the night I sat out on a hill in the park
overlooking the downtown area. Out on the lake were two swans. The tall
buildings were glowing kind of orangey. Inside the little nightclub which
had been converted into a theatre, I could hear people excitedly getting
their tickets and finding seats.
Overhead, the sky was clear and the moon was bright. It was a perfect moment
that I will cherish forever. To me you will always be a picture perfect city
full of hope and talent and life. Thank you for daring to embrace The Last
Session.
Now, when's the cast album going to be released? :-)
